Driving Around Maui with Foggy Headlights? We Can Restore Them

Are your headlights looking foggy, hazy, or yellowed? This is due to the clear coat deteriorating on your lens. This can seriously affect your visibility at night or during inclement weather. And if you’re looking to sell your car or simply want to give your car a better appearance, restoring the lens definitely helps make your car look younger.

But don’t worry, most of the time, your headlights can be restored to a like-new condition. You don’t need to replace them altogether. And depending on your make and model, a new pair of headlights can cost hundreds to thousands of dollars.

The Headlight Restoration Process

To deliver exceptional results, our headlight restoration process involves a combination of wet-sanding, polishing, and coating, to give you a like-new lens. Each pair of headlights will be handled slightly differently. Some may require it to go pretty heavy with wet-sanding while other headlights may take half the time and effort. Here’s a general breakdown of how we do it:

Step 1: Clean and Mask Off the Headlights
We start by wiping down the headlights with a rinseless wash, claying the surface, and taping off the surrounding paint to protect it during the sanding process. We don’t want the sanding paper making contact with the bare paint at any time.

Step 2: Sand the Headlights
Based on the condition of your headlights, we’ll sand them with grit ranging from 800 to 3,000. The lower the grit number, the more aggressive it is. This step removes the layer of grime or old clear coat and restores a smooth surface.

Step 3: Compound and Polish
Once the sanding steps are complete, we machine polish the headlights using a 3” polisher to bring back maximum clarity and shine.

Step 4: Apply Protection
To protect and maintain the like-new look, we apply a ceramic coating for long-lasting protection.

This service takes around an hour or two hours  to complete based on the condition of your headlights. If needed, we can also do a restoration on your fog lights. Depending on the material and the accessibility of them, we may only be able to polish them out but they’ll look better nonetheless (this may be an additional fee).

Interested in our other exterior detail services? We can also add gloss and clarity to your paint with our paint correction and ceramic coating services. This will greatly transform the appearance of your vehicle and make it look better than the day you bought it!

Headlight Restoration FAQ

Can you restore headlights with cracks in them?
Yes, it just depends how severe those scratches are. Sometimes we can remove them while we sand but other times, it can be permanent damage in the lens that will be there after our service.

Is headlight restoration better than replacing the headlights?
For the most part, yes. Restoring your headlights is more cost-effective than purchasing new headlights (depending on the price). Not only that, but even if you were to purchase new headlights, over time, as your headlights get hit by the sun, that clear coat will also deteriorate and you’ll need to get them restored again.
